Our Rural hackers team has been working with groups between 55 and 80 years old.

One was a group living in Vilaboa, a village near Pontevedra, whose Community Hall was offered for this activity.

The group was integrated by only retired women, even though they never stopped working at home and on their land. In the beginning, ten women came, curious about the action.

Most of them were super motivated to learn from the start, even though some were afraid of going out of their comfort zone and showing one of their vulnerabilities; nevertheless, they are a strong group of women capable of much more.

We explained that we wanted to shorten the distance between them and the technology. After a round of questions, we presented different practical skills that we thought were interesting for them.

We discovered where we could be helpful to this community and how we could do it; by showing them how to use their smartphones, prioritize their security, and avoid fake requests and annoying publicity, since they belong to an age group at high risk of scams. 💪👩‍🦱👩‍🦳
