We began to organize Fuchiqueira in collaboration with Repair Cafe

Our Fuchiquiera initiative continues to thrive with monthly gatherings at Casa do Pobo. These events blend traditional crafts like sewing, watercolor painting, and natural dyeing with recycled fabrics, alongside modern technological repairs like computer refurbishment.

This year, we’ve started collaborating with the international Repair Café movement and Enxeñería Sen Fronteiras to promote the repair and reuse of items, reducing waste. Their team provided mentors skilled in electronics repair, guiding participants on how to fix various electronic devices.

Also, the local community engage deeply, sharing skills and receiving donated computers, fostering a spirit of learning and environmental consciousness.

Speakers at T3chFest

We had the pleasure to share our tech projects at the technology conference T3chFest.
We highlighted the incredible contributions of the people from our village and surrounding areas who make it all possible. In fact, the entire presentation was a journey through the stories of these people—how their dedication and collaboration are driving the success of projects in Anceu and beyond.

You can watch the session here.

Rural Hackers Magazine was published!

Rural Hackers has the magazine we once dreamed of!

After an unforgettable summer with Cora and Feli at the Culture Moves Residency we released our very first Rural Hackers magazine! During their time in Anceu, they immersed themselves in our local culture, gathering stories and exploring the impact of Rural Hackers projects. They connected deeply with the community, receiving not only amazing stories but also warmth, hospitality, and even fresh produce from local gardens as this magazine is.

We launched Eleven Yellow Residencies

The Eleven Yellow Residency Program by Rural Hackers is designed for builders, thinkers, and experimenters seeking the right environment to advance their ideas.

This residency provides time, space, and a supportive community, without rigid schedules or forced outcomes. Participants can focus on deep work—prototyping, experimenting, and transforming ideas into tangible outcomes—away from daily distractions.

Collaborative management of the Neighbours’ House

We have officially begun the collaborative management of the Neighbours’ House in Anceu village.

Four associations are involved in managing this open, collective space where all our community meetings with the village are held. These associations—the Anceu water association, the forest association of Anceu, the neighborhood association, and Rural Hackers—meet monthly to facilitate collective management and rotational leadership.

Updates from these meetings are shared via the WhatsApp group of the to village ensure transparent management.

You can follow the news in the web of the communal house.

Rural Hackers vests were designed

We’ve designed special vests for the Rural Hackers volunteer team to ensure they are easily identifiable at events.

These vests were crafted by our volunteers Rosario and Rosabel, who you can see in the photos, using recycled denim. They created the patterns and designs, and both women from the village actively participate in our activities.

Additionally, with the help of our volunteer Noelia and a digital vinyl cutting machine, we’ve prepared the “I am Rural Hacker” logo for the vests.

Loreto, the villager who became the official RH art mediator

Loreto, a neighbor of Anceu village, has become the cultural mediator for the artists of Rural Hackers Residency programs.

In this role, she meets with artists as needed, connects with the village and those interested in participating, and contributes ideas to artistic projects.

Carlos, the villager who became RH official photographer

Carlos, a neigbor of Anceu village with a passion for photography, has become the official photographer for Rural Hackers events.

He is responsible for creating lasting memories and capturing moments like those seen in this photo album from the first Entre Culturas event of 2025.

Speakers at WordCamp Madrid 2025

Juan Hernando, our Rural Hacker ambassador, recently delivered a talk in WordCamp Madrid. He discussed the growing trend of microcommunities within the WordPress community. These small, impactful groups are reaching new audiences and fostering social change through WordPress, which is proving to be more than just a CMS.

In his presentation, Juan showcased real projects, like Rural Hackers, that are making a difference and shared strategies for creating your own microcommunity.

TecnoArranxo’s Continued Growth

TecnoArranxo initiative, led by our volunteer Iván, continues to thrive, now supporting more than nine new associations, entities, and local governments.

With the addition of a new volunteer, Noa and Ivan, we’ve expanded our efforts, donating over 70 pieces of computer equipment to organizations such as Moaña local government, Cangas local government, Cangas Cáritas, and Ponte Caldelas high school.

TecnoArranxo is dedicated to refurbishing and configuring old computer equipment, giving it a second life by donating it to those in need.

First steps on plastic upcycling

Inspired by our visit to The Making Rooms in Blackburn and meeting with Nashir, a young entrepreneur from StarMakers, we decided to start our first experiments with recycling bottle caps.

Using a panini press, we’ve begun transforming plastic bottle caps into useful items like keychains, coasters, and decorations.

Finalist at EYE awards!

We are thrilled to announce that we were finalists in the 2025 Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) entrepreneurship awards.

The EYE program is a European exchange initiative that allows aspiring entrepreneurs to learn from experienced counterparts abroad.

Our team member, Nacho, participated in an exchange in 2023, collaborating with Passerelles Numériques through the Global EYE program in Southeast Asia. This partnership focused on empowering tech-driven nonprofits, offering new insights and innovative solutions to rural challenges, furthering our mission of technological and social advancement.

Raíces: Our first project with Escuela Reina Sofía

In collaboration with the artist María Casado, a professor at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, a unique project was born that fused classical music with traditional music.

Alongside artists Alessandro and Hugo, also from the Reina Sofía School, they created a musical improvisation workshop.

This initiative featured the participation of local bands such as the Torreiros de Forzáns, the Coro de Voces Fornelenses, and the Pandereteiras de San Vicente.

The result was a extraordinary fusion concert, blending the richness of classical and traditional sounds.

Speakers at Creativa Festival

We’re excited to share that Rural Hackers took the stage at Festival Creativa 2025 in Vigo—an inspiring gathering where art, creativity, and music met in powerful ways.

Our co-founder, Nacho, was invited to speak about how art and tech are transforming rural life—not just as tools, but as bridges between generations, places, and ideas.

At Rural Hackers, we believe creativity shouldn’t be limited to cities. Rural villages hold deep cultural memory and resilience—and when connected with new technologies, they become fertile ground for bold experimentation and community-driven innovation.

A mural for Ventín: Our first artistic step beyond Anceu

We’ve just completed our first collaborative mural in the neighboring village of Ventín, next to Anceu. In partnership with the local Neighborhood Association and the Communal Forest Association, we co-created a mural that celebrates iconic elements of Galician identity—hórreos (traditional granaries used to store grain), torques (Celtic-era neck ornaments), petroglyphs (prehistoric rock carvings), and emblematic animals like the Galician cow. The mural was brought to life over a weekend through an open call that invited participation from both the Ventín and Anceu communities. The experience culminated in a joyful gastronomic celebration. The entire process was guided by Shona, an American artist based in Berlin, currently in residence with Rural Hackers through the European programme Culture Moves Europe.

Here you have a link of the experience.

An artistic tribute to our neibourg Rogelio

Shona, an artist from New York, created a lakeside installation using recycled wood and the surrounding forest as her canvas.

The piece honors Rogelio, a neighbor who helps us immensely and holds deep knowledge of the land. He protects and cares for the forest with love and wisdom, always saying he supports us because we support the village. This artwork is a tribute to his generosity and to the bond between people and place.

You can see more details of the experience here

Textile Art in Nature – Honoring Collective Creation

Shona, an artist from New York, created a second installation deep in the forest, this time using recycled textiles. The piece is a tribute to Se, one of the people who most actively supports the cultural and social life of the village through art, theater, and collective creation.

Using different discarded fabrics and materials, Shona wove a piece that blends into the natural landscape while honoring the spirit of collaboration and creativity that Se represents. The work stands as a symbol of care, imagination, and the power of community-driven cultural action.

The Gift of being Seen project in Anceu

Kristinka embarked on a deeply personal artistic project in the village, creating painted or photographic portraits of 80 local residents. Her goal was to go beyond appearances and capture each person’s unique story, history, and character.

Her project culminated in a public exhibition showcasing all 80 portraits together. Visitors wander through the gallery-like space—celebrating familiar faces and their stories, discovering new perspectives, and forging deeper connections with their fellow villagers.

Natural Colors of the Forest – A Collective Creation

Raquel, an artist from Portugal, spent a month in the village exploring natural dyeing techniques using materials from the forest.

Throughout her residency, she led weekly workshops at Casa do Pobo, where local residents gathered every Wednesday to learn and create together.

The result of this shared journey is a beautiful collective artwork, now displayed in the office of Casa do Pobo, celebrating the connection between nature, tradition, and community.
