Human versus Machine Residency

Cuco’s artistic vision and Anis’s tech expertise intertwined in a unique dance. The residency aimed to train AI, under Anis’s guidance, to echo Cuco’s style. Over weeks, they honed algorithms, capturing Cuco’s essence. Cuco and Anis, an artist and a technologist, have ventured into the challenging arena of coalescing art with artificial intelligence. Their residency is an awe-inspiring symbiosis that gave birth to two intellectually stimulating pieces that delve into the intricate dynamics between humans and AI.

Becoming cuco shortfilm

Julia Casal’s documentary delves into the creative process of an artist and its AI. From digitalizing Cuco’s work to refining AI algorithms, every step reveals human ingenuity. Cuco and Anis navigated complexities, teaching AI to paint like Cuco, pushing art-tech boundaries.  Julia produced a new documentary about how Artistic expression and technology have long shared an intricate symbiotic relationship, shaping and advancing each other. In this era of rapid technological evolution, this project offers valuable insights in the complex dialogue of the AI impacts beyond its functional utility. You can enjoy the documentary here

As Indianas shortfilm

This project delves into the emigration narratives originating from the village of Anceu. Through the voices of women, the film captures their experiences from a feminist perspective. The Galician diaspora represents a significant chapter in our history, marked by the migration to South America. We were captivated by these migrant stories from a young age, listening to our grandparents sharing their incredible experiences and long journeys. This rich oral tradition laid the foundation for our understanding of Galicia.

Arianna from Ecuador began this residency to explore and document these stories in greater depth. She created the documentary “As Indianas” by immersing herself in the local community.

We created Anceu Maker Space

Our “atelier” has been transformed into a maker space where we can work with art, creativity, and machines. We blend technology and art like true rural hackers! Thanks to the collaboration of our community and the valuable assistance of our neighbors from the village, we have carried out a series of significant improvements. We have learned how to change a roof, apply whitewash, and sand walls. With the help of AI, we have created an interior design prototype. More about the experience here.

Curiositech and Do Action Hackathon

Over nine days, 32 participants from seven countries gathered at Anceu Coliving to engage in a web development workshop using WordPress, producing four websites for local NGOs. This effort strengthened community ties between neighbors and youths.

The websites developed include “El Mercado de la Tía Ni,” which transforms local resident Nieves’s cultural activities into a digital marketplace. “Casas Indianas,” in collaboration with architect Teresa Taboas, features the region’s notable Indian houses. Additionally, the “Casa Do Pobo de Anceu” website promotes this local social hub. More info here.

Dancing collaborative mural

We painted a mural with Cuco, by giving life to Casa do Pobo’s stage through a painting representing Anceu’s village’s traditional dance. Everybody in the village joined us to paint together.

Entre Culturas is born

Our international community came together to showcase traditional dishes from various countries, all prepared by the locals of Anceu Village. Our resident, Mery from Poland, has brought this to life through her captivating project of mapping the diverse species found in the picturesque surroundings of Anceu. Armed with her keen observational skills, Mery set out to explore the local flora, bringing into focus the incredible biodiversity that exists. During this journey, Mery shared reflection that resonates deeply with us, “There’s literally nothing in nature that blooms all year long, so do not expect yourself to do so.”

Lembranzas: A Nostalgic Journey Through Time and Memory

Meet Lavinia (@lavinia.oros) , our resident, who teamed up with Loreto, a local from the village. Together, with the help of the supportive Anceu villagers, they embarked on a journey through time, collecting old photographs that beautifully captured the village’s rich history and heritage. The result? An extraordinary exhibition that took us on a nostalgic journey, reminding us of the importance of preserving our collective memories.

Creative writing residency

María Cabrera, a renowned writer, guided a creative writing workshop at Casa do Pobo, the village’s communal house. This space became a center of creativity where participants were encouraged to freely explore their literary potential. María provided expert exercises that helped emerging writers unlock their creativity, crafting detailed stories and expressing their deepest emotions. The workshop was notably enriched by lively interactions between the participants living at the coliving space and the local villagers, enhancing the overall learning experience. More info here.

Robotics for kids

Thanks to Ivan, our robotics genius, we have been able to enjoy robotics classes in the Casa do Pobo of Anceu. The children, apart from having fun, have learned a lot about robots and their small but complex mechanism.

Facilitators at Rural Hacking Workshop

We facilitated the first European Creative Hubs Network Workshop. It was a four-day event funded by the European Creative Hubs Network that
brought together 24 members from creative hubs, coworkings, and colivings across Europe at Anceu Coliving. This inspiring and energizing experience sparked new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities for revitalizing rural areas through creative hubs, coliving, and coworking spaces throughout Europe. More info here.

Pegadas do Recordo project is born

This initiative aims to blend audiovisual elements with the forgotten stories and traditions of the village, ensuring they are remembered and cherished for generations to come.

Working closely with the villagers, participants recorded a wide array of fascinating stories, such as the submerged village of Eiras, memories of playing football, and the history of the water mills. In a truly collaborative effort, they formed teams with the villagers, making sure that at least one local resident played a central role in each video.

All these videos are included in signs all over the village with NFC and QR codes. You can see more info of the project here.
